Easter Holidays
Reminder school closes next Friday 31st March at 12noon for Easter holidays. School reopens Monday 17th April’23.
Aldi Rugby Sticker
Aldi Rugby stickers are available until the end of April. We will continue to collect the stickers as we now have a second poster to fill. Many thanks to everyone who is contributing.
Bus Éireann School Bus
School Transport Application Process for 2023/24 School year is now open on www.buseireann.ie/schooltransport for New Applicants to apply by 28th April 2023.
Bus Éireann will contact all existing school bus passengers directly via email.
All eligible applicants for 2023/24 (who reside not less than 3.2km from their nearest National School) and non-eligible concessionary applicants (if spare seats available) must have correct paperwork submitted by 28th April’23.
All applicants who qualify for bus places for the 2023/24 school year, MUST have ticket fees paid between 3rd April – 9th June’23. Fees for bus tickets for 2023/24 will be €50 for Primary pupils, €75 for Secondary pupils, to a maximum of €125 for any family.

Cork City Sports
City Sports teams were finalised and submitted this week. Lots of training ahead before they go to Cork on Thursday 1st June’23.

Spar Soccer Tournament
Well done to the girls’ soccer team who took part in the SPAR soccer Blitz in Bantry last Tuesday and got to the semi-final. Many thanks to Caroline Buttimer for all her help with their coaching and to Miss. Buttimer for organising participation in the event for both Boys & Girls teams.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
This week leading up to Lá le Pádraig (St. Patrick’s Day) is our Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish week). We will be encouraging the children to use their ‘Gaeilge’ as often as possible throughout each day and they will be taking part in activities related to our Irish culture and language.
Bank Holiday
This Friday 17th March is a Bank Holiday for St. Patrick’s Day. School closed that day.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This year our school will not be taking part in the Clonakilty St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Fri 17th at 2pm.
Sports Partnership Athletics
Second and third class Athletics lessons run by Lorna O’Regan, on Monday afternoons for the next few weeks.
Cork City Sports
We will be taking part in the Primary School Cork City Sports again this year in MTU, Cork on 1st June’23.
Teams have to be submitted next week so we have been doing lots of practice runs to help us pick sprinting & relay teams & to give each child a fair chance to do their best. Two boys & two girls can be entered to complete in each year grouping, plus a mixed age boys and girls relay team.

Week 23 (09/03/23)
Spar Soccer Tournament
Well done to the boys’ soccer team who took part in the SPAR soccer Blitz in Bantry last Tuesday and got to the semi-final. Spring visit to Darrara Agricultural College
Yesterday all our pupils visited Darrara Agricultural College for their open day programme. They all had a wonderful time and learned a lot about the animals, machinery, simulators & now a working farm operates. Many thanks to Darrara College and their staff for allowing schools to access this.
Engineer’s Week
This week is Engineers Week in school. All classes are having fun completing lots of structural and creative engineering type STEM challenges and tasks.

Our staff have decided to take part every second year, so this year the children will have an opportunity to watch the parade on Fri 17th at 2pm or if they wish, to take part with a club that they are a member of instead.

Week 22 (02/03/23)
World Book Day
Today we celebrate ‘World Book Day’ with the children as they were invited to dress up as one of their favourite book characters for the day and took part in lots of fun World Book Day activities & received a World Book Day token. Well done everyone.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is in our school this week. Children can purchase books in school this Thursday & Friday. All children have viewed the books & have taken home a ‘wish list’ of titles they are interested in with prices. There is NO obligation to buy a book but any purchases made will help us earn free books for our school libraries.
Parents are also welcome to come and view the books themselves from 2-3pm today Thursday.
Spar Soccer Tournament
Our 3rd to 6th class school 5-aside soccer tournament was enjoyed by all, over two afternoons last week and this week. Team panels of 7/8 players have now been chosen from 4th-6th class to take part in the SPAR Blitz in Bantry over the next 2 weeks. Next Tues 7th March all the boys from 4th – 6th class will travel by bus to Bantry for their Blitz. 7 team players & the rest as supporters.
Likewise, all the 4th- 6th girls will travel by bus on Tues 14th March’23. 8 team players & the rest as supporters.
Spring visit to Darrara Agricultural College
Next Wed 8th March'23 all our pupils are visiting Darrara Agricultural College for their open day programme. Please be in school before 8:55am. Bus will leave school at 9am & will return the children to school later that day. Normal collection times at school. Wellington boots or old shoes & a coat are essential for all.
No Uniform required that day.
Peter Pan

Peter Pan
This Sunday 26th Feb’23 at 3pm, the full movie of our school play ‘Peter Pan’ will be shown in Kilgarriffe Church (on big TV screens) for all to enjoy. Everyone welcome. eircode P85 DV27

3rd to 6th class will take part in a school 5-aside soccer tournament throughout the school day this Friday 24th & next Tuesday 28th Feb’23. Both a boys & a girls panel of 8 will be selected from that tournament to play in the SPAR Schools 5-a side Soccer Blitz in Bantry on Tues 7th (boys) & Tues 14th (girls) March’23.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will visit our school next week. The children can view the books available on Wednesday 1st March & any they wish to purchase (with parental permission) will be available on Thursday 2nd or Fri 3rd March’23. The school will receive a percentage of what’s spent to purchase further books for the school libraries.

Kilgarriffe NS ‘Open Day’ is next Tuesday 28th Feb’23 for any prospective pupils and their parents. All welcome to come and visit between 10am to 3pm, especially if interested in enrolling a child in the next few years.

The Junior room have had fun using and programming the ‘Bee Bots’ robots this week as an introduction to robotics.

The Annual Primary Schools Credit Union Quiz takes place this Sunday 29th Jan’23 in Ahamilla from 3-5pm. Best of luck to both our teams representing our school:

No school uniform required. Unfortunately, no parents are allowed to stay to watch the quiz, due lack of space at the venue. Mrs. Nicholson will be there as our member of staff.

Robots Designs
Well done to all the pupils in the Senior room who designed & made the most amazing array of model Robots …… maybe some will become ‘real’ in years to come!!

Peter Pan Musical
Well done to all the children who were all fantastic in their performance of Peter Pan before Christmas and entertained a huge audience in the Parochial Hall. Congratulations and hopefully everyone enjoyed the day.

New pupils
Welcome to Gabriela (6th Cass), Daniela (3rd Class) and Eduard (Infants) who joined our school just before the Christmas holidays from Romania. They are settling in well & no doubt everyone will continue to welcome them into our school community.
