Week 35 (24/06/21)

School Tour

Reminder our school tour is taking place tomorrow Friday 25th June at Smugglers Cove & The Lagoon in Rosscarbery.

All children will need to be delivered to Smugglers Cove by 9:30-9:45am as Activities start by 10am.

  • All children need to be suitably dressed for an active day, with trainers/runners on feet please.

  • Sun Cream to be applied BEFORE arrival.

  • Raincoat, Food & Drinks in backpack.

  • Junior room need a change of clothes & plastic bag to bring home wet gear, as they will most likely get wet at the Lagoon activities!!

 

Collection at Smugglers Cove at 1:30pm (2nd to 6th Class) & for Infants to 1st Class at the Lagoon (near Celtic Ross Hotel) at 1:45pm.

 

Monday – last day of school for Infants to 5th Class

Reminder that Monday (28th June) is the last day of school before the Summer holidays begin for Infants to 5th Class.

This is a full school day but NO UNIFORM is required.

 

6th Class Graduation

It’s that time of year again, when we say ‘Goodbye’ to all our 6th Class Students (15 this year) as they graduate from Primary School &

head on to their various new Secondary Schools, for the next stage in their educational adventures.

We wish them all the best & remind them that they will always be welcome to drop in and say hello, complete work experience, etc. in the future.

Tuesday 29th June: 6th Class Graduation Details (10am-12noon):

6th Class parents/guardians (no younger siblings please) are invited to join us for the 6th class Graduation Celebration, which will take place outdoors.

Children are to arrive to school at 10am with parents. We will start with a short ceremony, followed by games and refreshments and will finish by 12noon.

Children are to wear school uniform. Please let us know how many will attend from your family (2 adults per child max).

Please note that plans are weather dependant, as we can't have parents gather in the school building due to Covid restrictions.

Parents attending may need an umbrella!!

Sports Day

We had a very successful Sports Day last Fri 18th & the lovely weather made it all the more enjoyable for everyone. Since Parents couldn’t attend this year, we took lots of photos on the day, which we will share on our Parents What’s Ap group & the school Website. Slight delay in doing this as our school mobile phone decided to die, temporary back up one wasn’t able for the media transfer, but we’ve just got a new one organised, so will get photos of our young athletes sorted & sent out ASAP!

 

Student of the Year 2021

Our Annual ‘Student of the Year’ Cup was also presented at Sports Day. This year it went to Gabriel O’Sullivan Bickley in 4th Class.

Congratulations Gabriel and very well done.

Book Rental Payments 2021-2022

Last day for Book Rental forms & payment is today. Anyone else still wanting to avail of this scheme, we will accept any last requests up to next Monday 28thJune.

 

Ukulele Workshop

5th & 6th Class Ukulele Workshop sessions took place on Monday & Thursday mornings this week & were greatly enjoyed by the children playing in the yard & by the rest of the classes, listening to the jingles!!  We look forward to all the children learning to play during the next school year.

 

Aladdin Connect

All families have received a survey re uniform to complete on their Aladdin account.

Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated, if all could complete please ASAP.

 

Farewell

As the school year comes to an end we are also saying farewell to both Igor Koziol (Senior Infants) and Joananna Sam (1st Class) as they are both moving to live in new regions. We wish them and their families well & hope they settle quickly in their new homes & schools.

Scoil na Mara Competitions

Congratulations to Amon Papasang (6th Class) who won the Scoil na Mara ‘Create a postcard’ Competition in our school.

Well done to everyone else who entered.

The judges were very impressed at the high standard of the entries and had a difficult job picking the winner.

 

Sports Day Friday 18th June

Sports Day will take place this Friday 18th from 9:30am to 2:30pm for all classes, including Infants. 6th Class have been busy this week organising events, creating banners, posters & information videos for all the classes as the excitement for Friday is building momentum!!

Unfortunately, no parents or guardians can attend Sports Day this year.

 

All children have been allocated to one of three coloured teams (Red, Blue or Black).

Everyone will compete in all the fun activities, gaining points for their ‘Team Colour’.

At the end of the day medals will be distributed to all: Gold for 1st team with most points, Silver for 2nd Team and Bronze for 3rd Team.

 

On Friday each child will need:

  1. To be dressed in t-shirt/ jumper of their Team colour

  2. Suitable Sports shoes

  3. Sun cream applied before school

  4. Own Water/ drinks Bottle

  5. Healthy Food for break and lunch time

 

Sports Day Timetable:

9:30am to 10:30am: Sports activities.

10:30-11am: Break for Snack

11am-12:20pm: Sports Activities

12:20-1pm: Lunchtime

1-1:40pm: Sports Activities

1:40pm: Tidy up

1:50pm: Ice Cream for all

2:00pm: Prize Giving

                - 1 prize per classroom to child showing best ‘sportsmanship’ throughout the day

                - Medals presented to Teams

                - Student of the Year Cup

                  (for greatest improvement both socially & academically this school year.)

2:30- 3:00pm: Home time for all (collect from school gate & buses will run as usual)

Junior room Pyjama Party

Next Tuesday 22nd June, Ms. Ann Dennehy is hosting a PJ party for her last day with the Junior room children.

All children in the Junior room only are invited to come to school in their pyjamas for the day. Proper footwear for outdoors please!

 

Book Rental Payments 2021-2022

Book Rental forms were distributed last Friday.

If you wish to avail of the Book Rental Scheme for the next school year (Sept 2021 to June 2022),

please sign form & send it back into school with the correct payment by next Thursday 24th June at the latest.

If you do not wish to avail of Book Rental, all text books will need to be purchased during the Summer holidays.

Full Book lists for 2021/22 will be available shortly on Aladdin.

Credit Union Ice Cream Challenge

Thank you to everyone who voted for our school on ‘facebook’ for the Clonakilty Credit Union ‘Win an ice-cream Cart’ competition.

Unfortunately, we weren’t one of the winners (Ardfield & St. Mary’s Enniskeane won), however we did receive 2 cinema tickets,

for which we will draw 2 lucky winners on the last day of term, Mon 28th June.

 

School Tour

Reminder our school tour is taking place on Friday 25th June at Smugglers Cove & The Lagoon in Rosscarbery.

2nd to 6th Class have all entered the ‘Create a postcard’ Competition, which were submitted yesterday. There is a €50 prize for a winner in each school. Best of luck everyone, fantastic efforts made by all & Scoil na Mara will notify us of the winner in our school next week.

 

Used Clothes Collection Fundraiser

Our clothes collection bags were all collected yesterday. Many thanks to all who contributed as an incredible 780Kg were collected in total.

 

Ukulele Workshop

Unfortunately this 5th & 6th Class Workshop was postphoned due to the wet, drizzly weather, as this must take place outdoors due to Covid restrictions. Hopefully we will be able to have it as soon as the weather improves.

Mayor Visit to School

Next Monday 31st May, the outgoing Mayor of Clonakilty, Pádraig O’Reilly wishes to visit our school to present a certificate of

appreciation from the Clonakilty Mayoral Council, as a mark of honour to all in the school for the fantastic endeavours given to

all the young people in the town of Clonakilty during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

 

School Tour

This year our School Tour has been booked for all classes for Friday 25th June at Smugglers Cove in Rosscarbery.

The cost will be €26 per child. A deposit of €10 per child is needed by next Friday 4th June to secure a place and the

remainder by Friday 18th June please.

Full payment can be made by Fri 4th if you prefer.

Scoil na Mara

Scoil na Mara have a new series of Environmental videos & learning materials available to schools about Irish biodiversity

along waterways and the seashore titled, ‘Source to Sea’.

Lots of our classes will be watching these & 3rd to 6th Class will take part in the Clonakilty ‘Create a postcard’ Competition

along with other Clonakilty Primary schools.

This week is Episode 2: The Estuary comes to Life

Reminder please to name your child’s jumpers with a permanent marker or name tape, as once they take them off, they are all the same!! 

If your child comes home with someone else’s named jumper, please send it back to school the next day & inform their teacher & we will

School Tour

This year our School Tour has been booked for all classes for Friday 25th June at Smugglers Cove in Rosscarbery. Activities on the day will include:

 

Infants and 1st Class: Adventure Golf, Smugglers Maze & activities at the Lagoon activity centre (pedal boats, crab fishing and trip around lagoon on speed boat.)

2nd to 6th Class: Adventure Golf, Smugglers Maze and Tubing Slide Park.

 

All children will need to be brought to & collected from Rosscarbery as we will be unable to use tour bus transport due to Covid restrictions & keeping our class ‘pods’ separate.

Children will need to be delivered to Smugglers Cove by 9:30am and collected at 1:30pm.

Children normally on school buses, can travel on them if needed. Please let bus driver know if this is required.

 

The cost will be €26 per child. A deposit of €10 per child is needed by Friday 4th June to secure a place and the remainder by Friday 18th June please. Full payment can be made by Fri 4th if you prefer.

Ukulele Music Sessions

Some ukulele music sessions have been booked for 5th & 6th Class for June. All other classes will have an opportunity to learn to play this instrument during the next school year.

 

Standardised Tests

Standardised Tests will be administered to all classes over the next few weeks in English spelling, reading and comprehension and Maths.

All results will be on children’s end of year school reports.

If any more families require a Parent Teacher meeting, please send a text to the school mobile & individual teachers will arrange a date & time for you.

 

Autism Awareness

Last Friday we had our autism awareness day, and raised €148 for the Autism Charity ‘As I Am’. Thank you to all that contributed.

Autism Awareness

This Friday we are having an autism awareness day, so that the children learn a little about what autism is and have a better understanding of those with autism that they will interact with throughout their lives.

The children are invited to wear blue for the day & bring in a small donation for the Autism Charity ‘As I Am’.

StarCamp Summer Camps

This week we received ‘StarCamp’ Summer camp flyers, which some of the children were interested in and took home. If anyone is interested in making a booking for one of these Summer Camps, we have a few money off vouchers that can be given out on a first come basis. Please let your child’s teacher know if you would like a voucher.

 

6th Class Graduation Day

We are currently planning to have our 6th Class Graduation Day on Tuesday 29th June.

We are hoping to have this event outdoors & to be able to invite 6th Class parents to attend like last year. This of course will all depend on the Covid guidelines at this time, as to how many people can gather at an outdoor gathering.

If number restrictions won’t permit parents to attend, our school staff will still hold that day for 6th Class Graduation, so that they can have a special last day in Primary School.

All other pupils will finish school for their Summer Holidays on Monday 28th June.

Reminder that this annual payment of €60 per child for the school year is now long overdue. Amounts still owing were sent out by text to all families still in arrears. Prompt payment would be much appreciated.

Please can payments be sent into school in a sealed named envelope ASAP.

This helps with some of the costs for extra art, cookery & gardening supplies, photocopying, computer lessons, 24 hour personal accident insurance for the full 12 months of the year, as well as extra activities like cycling workshop, extra sport coaching, etc.

Ukulele painting

As part of schools ‘Creative Clusters Programme’ our school now has 20 Ukulele’s for the children to learn to play.

The Senior classroom (5th & 6th Class) have been busily painting designs onto them & they now look amazing.

Well done to all involved.

Due to Covid restrictions our planned music teacher series of lessons won’t be going ahead until the next school year. 

We are currently sorting an outdoor Ukulele Workshop for 6th Class, later this term, so they don’t miss out on the musical fun, after all their hard work and creativity with their art designs.

Next Used Clothing Collection will take place on Wednesday 9th June’21.

Bags of clothes, shoes, handbags, belts & soft toys can be dropped to school whenever it suits. No duvets, pillows or cushions.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Due to Covid restrictions we are unable to have our usual Parent Teacher meetings, however if you would like a Parent Teacher

meeting, please send a request to our school mobile & we will organise something with individual parents after school hours.

 

GAA Football

Further lessons of football will start again soon for all classes with Conan from Clonakilty GAA once restrictions are lifted shortly for

children’s sport.
