Daffodil Day

This Friday 20th March is National Daffodil Day for the Irish Cancer Society. All children are invited to wear yellow and/or green to school on Friday & donate a small amount to this worthy cause if possible. Donation bucket will be in classrooms.

 

Say Yes to Languages: French Lessons

French lessons start this afternoon Thursday 19th March, in the senior Classroom (4th to 6th class) for 10 weeks.

 

Easter Holidays

Reminder school closed for Easter Holidays from next Friday 27th (12 noon) until Mon 13th April’26.

 

School Activities Fees

We would be very grateful if any family that has yet to pay for the following school activities please do so, as soon as possible.

  • Cycle sense €10 per family (3rd -6th  Class)

Week 25  12/03/26

 

Junior Room Trip to Darrara College Farm

Yesterday the Junior classroom (Infants & 1st Class) had a great morning out at Teagas Darrara Agricultural College Open Day. They got to see all around the farm, meet baby lambs and calves, drive a tractor simulator, climb aboard real tractors and a forklift and much more. They were lucky to have a lovely fine sunny day & the excitement ended with yummy fresh milk & a rice krispie bun treat.

Seachtaine na Gaeilge

Next week we will celebrate Seachtaine na Gaeilge in school, with lots of extra ‘Irish related activities. All children will be encouraged to use their ‘cúpla focail’ a little more throughout the school day.

Week 24  05/03/26

 

Green Flag

This week as part of our Green School flag: Litter and Waste application, the school welcomed a visit from David Macilwraith, An Taisc Green Schools officer. The Green School Committee showcased all the work taking place in the school to eliminate litter and reduce waste. David was very impressed with the wonderful work and the committee’s enthusiasm. A big well done to the children on the Green School Committee, who represented our school so well.

 

Achievements

Congratulations to our 6th Class pupil Eduard on achiceving a 1st in ‘Kick Light’ and 3rd in ‘Light Contact’ in an International Kickboxing Competition which took place in Dublin last weekend.

 

Soccer Blitz

Well done to the fantastic team that represented Kigarriffe NS in the FAI schools Soccer tournament yesterday in Drinagh. It was reported back that phenomenal soccer was played & they were only narrowly beaten in the quarter final after extra time. Well done to all players Alex, Ada, Hannah, Cillian, Ru, Daniel & Eduard.

Many thanks to Mr. Lynch for organising, Caroline for coaching sessions & Graham for driving and supporting.

 

Junior Room Farm Trip

Next Wednesday 11th March’26 the Junior classroom (Infants & 1st Class) will attend a Schools Open Day at Darrara Agricultural College from 11-12:30pm. They will get to see lots of aspects of a working farm & animals including lots of new Spring lambs and calves & possibly some tractors & machinery too. They will travel there and back from school accompanied by 3 staff members. Please can all children have a car booster seat, wellies or old boots & a warm, waterproof jacket in school that day.

 

Engineers Week

Lots of fun activities for our budding engineers happening this week.

 

World Book Day

Today Thursday 5th March’25 is World Book Day. Great book characters attending school today & loved hearing about their favourite books.

Fís Awards  

On Tuesday our Fís award winners had their photo taken with our ‘Adventure Boat’ by a professional photographer Martin Walsh. Look out for them in the Southern Star

 

Staff Update

Welcome to Aoife Connor who joined our staff last Monday to teach the Junior classes until Susan is fit to return to school, after her unfortunate accident. Wishing Susan well and a speedy recovery. Clodagh Nicholson is acting Principal whilst Susan is absent.

Green Flag

Next Tuesday we will have our ‘Green School Visit’ re our Green Flag progress & completion. Well done everyone our school have 28Kgs of waste batteries collected lets keep it going! Keep sending in waste batteries for recycling with WEEE Ireland Schools battery collection.  

 

Soccer Blitz

Next Wed 4th Mar’26 a mixed Senior room team will take part in the FAI 5-a side Schools Soccer Blitz in Drinagh during the school day. Good luck team & thank you to the parents who are helping with coaching and transport.

 

Engineers Week

Next week is Engineers week in schools. Lots of fun activities for our budding engineers to look forward to.

 

World Book Day

Next Thursday 5th March’25 is World Book Day. The children (and staff) are invited to dress-up as their favourite book character for a fun day of book related activities.

Fís Awards Cermony

Well done to our Fís award winners who returned from the Helix in Dublin with a lovely trophy & an ipad for our school.

 

Chess Lessons

Chess lessons for 2nd to 6th Class started this week. These will continue every Monday for the next few weeks. The cost of these chess lessons are €5 per child.

 

Cycle Sense

‘Cycle Sense’ programme has now finished for all 3rd to 6th class pupils. Hopefully all participants learned lots of cycling skills & safely to increase confidence & understanding how to keep safe when cycling on our roads and cycle ways.

Credit Union Quiz

A huge well done to our pupils who took part in the annual credit union quiz competition which took place last weekend. We are so proud of you all!

 

School Hot Meal Scheme

The hot meal scheme started in school this week.Parents please note you order the food or opt out from the school meals for your children through Carambola Hot Meals, if you have not ticked your child will not be in school or opt out from the scheme a selected choice of Hot dinner meal will arrive from Carambola.

Credit Union Quiz

The Annual Primary Schools Credit Union Quiz takes place this Sunday 8th Feb’25 at Ahamilla Sports Centre from 3-4:30pm. Please can teams be at Ahamilla by 2:45pm & collected afterwards at 4:30pm. No school uniform is required. No parents or mobile phones are permitted. Mr. Lynch will be there to look after the teams.

School Hot Meal Scheme

The hot meal scheme will commence on Monday 9th of February, Passwords and login details have been issued to everyone. Tomorrow the children will be given a lunchbox, we ask you put their name on them, these will be used each day to hold their hot meal so please ensure they bring them in every day. Please note ordering closes on Friday midnight for the next week.

Fís Awards Ceremony

Best wishes to our senior pupils who are nominated for an award in the national Fís (Film in Schools) competition. They will travel to the Helix in Dublin on Thurday 12th February bus leaves the school at 7am sharp. Cost is €10 per child, returning approx 7.30pm but we will update parents by text.

Cork Big Lego Event: Cork Brick Show at the Radisson Hotel Little Island, Cork this Sun 1st Feb’26 from 11am-5pm. Large intricate Lego models on display & huge Lego play areas for adults & kids. Tickets available from Eventbee.

Reminder School Closure

School closed next Tuesday 27th Jan’26. All staff have a training day in the Teachers Centre in Dunmanway so there will be nobody at school that day.

 

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent teacher meetings will take place next Mon 26th Wed 28th & Thurs 29th Jan’26 from 3:15pm each day. Please can all families book a meeting time slot in advance via Aladdin as soon as possible. If having difficulty doing so, please ask Heather in office or class teacher to help. Thank you.

 

Cycle Sense

‘Cycle Sense’ cycling & road safety workshops for 3rd to 6th class pupils started last Friday morning from 9:30am to 12 noon. The cost of this workshop is €10 per family. These will continue for a total of 6 weeks. Pupils will be supplied with a bike & helmet on these days, but are also welcome to bring in their own, if they’d prefer & it’s convienient for parents/ guardians!

Community Notes

Ireland Lights Up: This walking initiative takes place every Wednesday night for 6 weeks from Wed 7th Jan’26. All members of the local & school communities are invited to take part to light up the darkWinter nights. It gives the community a chance to walk safely together around the floodlit walking track at the GAA grounds at Ahamilla. Participation is free & suitable for all ages. Tea/Coffee provided in the clubhouse afterwards. Registration at 7:15pm in reception with walk starting at 7:30pm.

Week 15  11/12/25)

 

Wizard of Oz Musical Dress Rehersal in Parochial Hall (eircode P85 XC64)

Tomorrow Fri 12th Dec: All pupils from Infants to 6th Class will have a Full Dress Rehearsal in the Parochial Hall from 9am to 2pm. All children to be dropped & collected to the hall instead of school. There will be NOBODY at school on Friday.

All children can be collected from 2pm.

NO uniform required this Friday

 

Wizard of Oz Musical

The children will perform ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on stage for all our families to attend at 12 noon on Wednesday 17thDec’25in the Parochial Hall Clonakilty (eircode P85 XC64)

All parents, siblings, other family members & friends are welcome to attend. The children are to be brought to the hall between 9-9:30am to prepare for their show. Audience welcome to arrive at 11:30am for refreshments before performance starts at 12 noon.

Children go home after performance at about 1:30-2pm. School bus will take children to the hall in the morning but there will be NO SCHOOL BUS after the performance.

 

Help required

School staff will require some helpers on the day of our ‘Wizard of Oz’ performance with the following:

Supply some baked goods to serve with refreshments

Face painting 10-11:30am

Setting up & serving refreshments (10:30-12noon)

Selling raffle tickets (11:30am)

Wash up after refreshments/ performance (1:30-2pm)

Tidy up of hall after performance (1:30-2pm)

Lisavaird Art Competition

Congratulations to Evie Kingston (3rd Class) and Aela Graham Hughes (2nd Class) on winning 2nd prize in the 2nd & 3rd Class categories of the Lisavaird Art Cmpetition. Well done girls.

 

Christmas Jumpers

Children may wear bright colourful or Christmas jumpers next week instead of their uniform.

 

Christmas Carol Singing

Next Thursday some of the children in the Senior room will be singing Christmas carols accompanied by Mr. Lynch, at Bushmount Residential Care & Clonakilty Community Hospital during the school day.

 

 Christmas Holidays

Friday 19th Dec is the last half day of this school term. Children finish at 12noon for collection please. Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas. School reopens on Monday 5th January 2026.

Wizard of Oz Musical Rehersals in Parochial Hall (eircode P85 XC64)

Next week we will have 2 rehersals on stage in the Parochial Hall in Clonakilty.

  1. Tuesday 9thDec: All 2nd  to 6th Class pupils are to be dropped  to the hall for 9am & collected at 3pm.

  2. Fri 12th Dec: All pupils from Infants to 6th Class will have a Full Dress Rehearsal in the Parochial Hall from 9am to 3pm. All children to be dropped & collected to the hall instead of school. There will be NOBODY at school this day.

Beauty & the Beast Musical

All pupils from 2nd to 6th Class had a most enjoyable morning yesterday at The Sacred Heart Secondary School watching their most professional production of ‘Beauty & the Beast’.

 

Young Engineering Award

2nd and 3rd class have been working on various designs & building prototypes for the Young Engineers Programme. They’re now almost ready to submit their work & will have a ‘Real Engineer’ visit them in school this Friday afternoon.

Next Wedensday 3rd December’25 all children from 2nd to 6th Class have been invited to attend a performance of the musical ‘Beauty & the Beast’ presented by the Sacred Heart Secondary School, during the school day. Please ensure that your child has a coat in school that day as we will be walking there & back.

The campaign also supports the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice. Children can bring their waste batteries to school and place them in the blue battery boxes. Let’s get collecting!

As all were having so much fun before midterm participating in ‘Skip Around the World’ to reach many ‘Famous landmarks’, we have continued this week to reach the last few. Well done everyone for such a great effort & enthuasiasm.

Halloween Dress Up

Tomorrow Fri 24th Oct the children (and staff) are invited to dress in ‘Halloween Costume’ for the day. Costumes are to be age appropriate please (not too scary!). This Halloween to help promote a greener environment & reduce waste, children are encouraged where possible to opt for costumes made from recycled or upcycled materials, repurpose old clothing or costumes into new ones. We will be organising Halloween Fun and Games for them all to enjoy & are supporting the charity ‘Brú Columbanus’ as part of our dress up day. All donations welcome. Thank you.

This year our school will present ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on stage on Wed 17th Dec’25 in the Parochial hall. Auditions have taken place over the last week for the lead roles and these will be allocated before midterm along with their scripts to start learning!!

The rest of the parts & scripts will be distributed to all after midterm.

 

Christmas Card order

Once again this year, the children have designing their own individual Christmas card which were sent away to be printed professionally. Today each child has received a sample of their unique card, which they may keep.  

Parents/guardians now have an opportunity to order packs of 10 (@ €8 per pack) of your child’s own Christmas card. Order forms are in schoolbags today. Orders and payment will need to be returned straight after midterm, so our order can be submitted & the cards returned in plenty of time before needed for Christmas.

Nasal Flu Vaccine For Children

Thank you to all who returned the Flu vaccine forms. Any parents who have given consent, will have the nasal vaccine admistered to your children in school after the mid term break.

Anyone who forgot to return the forms & still wishes for their child to receive this free flu protection, can still do so by arrangement with their GP or local pharmacy.

Food Dudes

All children are participating in Phase 2 of Food Dudes this week. All new pupils have received a fruit & veg lunch box similar to the one all others got last year.  Next week all children are encouraged to continue to bring at least one portion of fruit and veg to school each day as part of their daily lunch. 1 child’s handful = correct portion.

Fís Film awards

Last term our school entered the films the children made with the ‘Adventure Boat’ into the Fís Film Awards. Our Junior & middle classrooms have won the ‘best new entry’ category & the Senior classroom has been ‘short-listed’ for one of the main awards. Congratulations to all the children involved and thanks to Sheila, Miss. Buttimer & Rev. Kingsley for their help, encouragement & involvement also. We look forward to a trip to the Helix in Dublin later this year to attend the awards ceremony. Well done all.

 

Food Dudes

Food Dudes returns to our school next week for Phase 2 of Food Dudes for all classes. This is following on from previous years of Food Dudes participation to maintain the healthy eating habits of eating 4-6 portions of fruit & veg each day. From next Mon 6th Oct to Fri 10th Oct’25, all children will be supplied with a portion of Fruit & Veg each day & will be encouraged to taste & try these as part of their lunch. There will be some fun videos & activities to participate with in the classroom, as well as a Home Booklet to complete with family. Information & consent letter in school bags today.

 

Active Flag Skip around the World

As we continue to work towards our Active Flag, next week all classes will participate in ‘Skip Around the World’. Each class will have an extra active break during every school day from Mon 5th Oct to Fri 24th Oct’25 to participate in skipping activities. Each skip = 1km as classes count their skips to travel to famous land marks around the World. Good luck everyone & let’s see how many landmarks we can all reach over the next 3 weeks!

Tag Rugby Blitz

All pupils from 2nd to 6th Class took part in the Primary School Touch Rugby Blitz at Clonakilty Rugby Club yesterday Wednesday 24th Sept’25. All had an enjoyable time with lovely sunshine. Thanks to Clonakilty Rugby Club for organising this event.

 

Diocesan Service

The annual Diocesan Schools Service took place today in St. Peter’s Church in Bandon. All classes from 2nd to 6th Class were in attendance & many took part in the service for Bishop Paul Colton’s final school service before his retirement.
